Largest Coal Retirement Agreement Ever

[Posted by Prof. Ramo]

We have heard from an attorney involved in more than 12 years of litigation against the Tennessee Valley Authority’s coal plants that a settlement has been reached.  2700 MW of coal generation will be shutdown and 2800 MW will either be shutdown or cleaned up.  In all, 92% of TVA’s coal fleet (59 units) will end up being retired or equipped with a scrubber/SCR combination.  The Greenwire story can be accessed here.

We are proud to say that one of the litigants in this history was the Our Children’s Earth Foundation, which has supported and been a client of our Environmental Law and Justice Clinic.
